A slightly earlier date for the spindle whorl cannot be entirely ruled out as these have been found in Viking York and are known as York Form C. Another example of a spindle whorl with concentric decoration was found in an early Norse context at Pool, Sanday. Typical Viking Age decorations on spindle whorls included concentric bands.
